Subclinical Hypothyroidism

Hypothyroidism is a disorder that is related to the functioning of the thyroid hormone. There are two basic types of Hypothyroidism called as clinical hypothyroidism and the normal hypothyroidism. The thyroid gland is one of the biggest endocrine gland. It is situated in the region of the neck. The functioning of this gland disturbs almost every part of the body. The thyroid gland is involved in the production of thyroid hormone. The over secretion pf thyroid hormone leads to Hyperthyroidism, while the under secretion of the thyroid hormone leads to Hypothyroidism.

Sub clinical Hypothyroidism is also a type of Hypothyroidism. This type does not show any symptoms. In this type of disorder the amount of thyroxine is normal but the amount of thyroid stimulating hormone level is between 5 and 25 mU/L.

Thus, when the blood test is done it results in a more than normal percentage of, thyroid stimulating hormones.

The occurrence of sub clinical hypothyroidism increases with the age. The risks and the symptoms of hypothyroidism are the same as that of the usual hypothyroidism. If sub clinical Hypothyroidism is not treated on time than in that case the there are increased chances of heart attacks, atherosclerosis, there is increase in the cholesterol level, increase in the percentage of triglycerides, increased risk of depression, panic attacks, increased risk of miscarriage in case of pregnant women, also delay in the growth of the infants, whose mother suffers from sub clinical Hypothyroidism during pregnancy.

As usual Hypothyroidism sub clinical Hypothyroidism should also be treated. This is because if it is not treated on time the situation can grow much worse then they actually are. It can also help in prevention of other disorders that are related to the functioning of thyroid glands. Proper medication under the guidance of the doctor must be taken. This is because when it comes to Hypothyroidism it has lot many disorders associated with it. They include weight gain, puffy face, and sleepiness and especially in infants Hypothyroidism is very dangerous. Although it occurs more in case of adults it should be diagnosed properly for small infants also. This is because in case of infants if the disorder prevails for a long time than that can lead to permanent disorders. These disorder may include mental retardness and unhealthy body. Thus one must be very much careful about the thyroid disorders and immediately go for a check up as soon as some symptoms become prominent. A early treatment can heal the disease in a short time.
