Pregnancy Hormones

Preface: Pregnancy Hormones

Conception, fertilization and the fetal development all are governed by the various hormones. During the pregnancy stages, the female body started producing the progesterone hormone that helps during the various reproductive stages. The pregnancy hormones help the woman sustain a new life within her. The progesterone hormone becomes dominant unlike the puberty stages where the estrogen rules and governs the bodily functions.

Features of pregnancy hormones

The progesterone hormone helps in the stimulation of the blood vessels that can enhance the quality of the uterine lining to support pregnancy. Even in the endometrium, the progesterone helps in the widening and expansion of the tiny glands. These glands are the producers of the fluid that is responsible for the nourishment of the sperms and the embryos that are placed in the uterine cavity. These glands are generally formed by the estrogen action but are finally dominated by the progesterone during the pregnancy stages. These glands in the developmental stages are called the 'feeding structures' of the reproductive system as they support the fertilization process. After the embedding of the fetus on the uterine lining, a hormone called b-HCG is released. This hormone originates from placental fluid that is present.

Anyhow, even during the several stages of pregnancy one, the placenta continuously produces both the female sex hormones. The graph of the progesterone almost touches the count of 180ng/ml during pregnancy. The pregnancy hormones regulate the functions of placenta and help in even strengthening the immunity system. Progesterone even helps in the development of mammary glands. The pelvic cavity is made strong and even one can avoid the uterus from contracting. Prolactin is another pregnancy hormone that helps in the stage of breastfeeding. There are a number of other pregnancy hormones like the insulin, thyroxin, cortisol and prolactin. The pregnancy hormones hence affect a woman's body in many ways.

Conclusion

The various pregnancy hormones affect a woman's body in different ways. Progesterone and thyroxin are the major pregnancy hormones. These hormones are the biological catalysts that expedite the various processes and result in a healthy pregnancy. The level of pregnancy hormones should be checked properly as its deficiency or excess can prove harmful for both the mother and the developing fetus. Therefore, the pregnancy hormones are an indispensable part of the reproductive cycle.
