Life Choice Diet
Life choice is a low-fat diet that was designed by Dr. Dean Ornish who has written books on reversing heart disease. It is the opposite of the Atkins approach as it is a low-fat diet with lots of whole grains, beans, soy products, veggies and fruits. He does not advocate meat, sugar or high-fat foods. Only 10 percent of one's calories come from fats.
There are some foods you can eat whenever you feel hungry (but not overeat), others you can eat in moderation. Because many prepared foods that are low-fat or non-fat have high sugar these are not recommended. He also recommends not eating commercially prepared products that have more than two fat grams in a serving. By studying lables you can see if sugar is at the beginning of the ingredients are not and help make intelligent decisions.
This diet is vegetarian and shares the same priciples as his Revesring Heart Disease and Prevention Diet but is more focused on weight loss . This book is titled, "Eat More, Weigh Lesss" and grazing throughout the day is actually recommended!
One interesting thing is that the Ornish diets don't include fish. He has statistics to demonstrate that people who followed his diet have received help with lowering blood pressure, frequency of angina and lower cholesterol levels.
