Hypothyroidism And Diabetes
Hypothyroidism is a disease that is generally seen in animals and Human beings. This disease is generally related to the improper functioning of the thyroid gland. The thyroid is one of the largest endocrine glands of the body. They are located in the neck region of the body. The thyroid gland is involved in the production of thyroid hormones. Improper functioning of the thyroid gland leads to the over production of thyroid gland or the under production of the thyroid gland. The over production disorder is called as the Hyperthyroidism while the underproduction disorder is called as the Hypothyroidism.
The diabetes control can be affected by Hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism can have dangerous effects on the diabetic patients. There is the change in the level of insulin requirement of the body. In case of Hypothyroidism the rate at which insulin is degraded is reduced. Thus this in turn can result in the decrease in the level of exogenous insulin requirement. Hypothyroidism is always associated with a variety of disorders. It is associated with a variety of abnormalities with the plasma lipid metabolism or the change in the low density lipoprotein cholesterol concentration.
Hypothyroidism usually occurs above the age of 40 years It is usually seen more in women than in men. It has been observed that the occurrence of Hypothyroidism has increased to a greater extent in type one as well as type two type of diabetes patients. It occurs especially after the age of 40 years. One has to be very careful after this age. One has to go for regular check ups so that one can trace if there is any occurrence of Hypothyroidism along with the diabetics. This is because it is very difficult to control diabetes when one also suffers from Hypothyroidism. This is generally because of the fact that the usage of Glucose by the body in case of a hypothyroid patient is continuously altered.
The rate of metabolism of the body is reduced. Metabolism takes place in almost every cell of the body. Thus the rate of change of metabolism can affect almost the whole body. The person doesn't feel like doing anything. The other disorder also includes the weight gain.
